The white spectrum provided by the magnifier’s LED light bulbs make reading and viewing clearer and comfortable to the eyes especially in dim and poorly lit environments. Having 2 white LED lights eliminates shadows on magnified objects. This is an amazing gift for your grandparents or someone with the poor sight. It’s also a great gift for someone involved in craftsmanship.

These are really excellent quality! I am a biology professor who uses microscopes frequently. These are surprisingly high quality lenses. The LED light is unnecessary but a fun feature when I visit schools from grade school through high school.

There are some good things about this magnifier, for what it is. The one I received has a LOT of spherical and chromatic aberration. Basically, what this means is that only the image towards the center of the lenses is going to be clear and in focus. The more magnification you try to get, the smaller and smaller your region of clear, undistorted image is going to get. This means that the large lens is effectively not a 5X lens for most uses. It’s more like a 2X lens, and furthermore it’s a 2X lens that’s only 1/2 the diameter of the physical item. There are some good things about the design. The “checkerboard” motif is attractive, and it seems well built for a plastic item. My plan has always been to clamp this in a table vise to provide a cheap lighted magnifying desk lamp, for which purpose it will be adequate. However, considering that the central functionality is magnification, the cost-cutting that went into the lens manufacture is quite unfortunate.UPDATE: I bought a different lens from the neighborhood hardware store. Being able to compare the two items makes it clear that the lens I got is pure crud. My new magnifier doesn’t have the “loupe” but it has the same functionality, a larger physical lens, of which about 9/10ths is useful. I am changing my review to 1 star. If you’re going to buy this, be aware: the quality of the lens may be abysmally low, either by cost-cutting design or through poor quality control.

  3. I was provided a sample of this product in exchange for a fair honest and unbiased review; my opinions are based solely on my personal experience with this product.I do a lot of crafts that require a lot of detailed close-up work: needlework (including counted cross stitch), thread and lace crochet, and more recently, coloring highly-detailed designs specifically intended for grown-ups. I’m also at an age when eyesight is becoming tricky, so I’m having more and more difficulty being able to focus on the fine details needed to pursue my favorite hobbies. That’s where a device like this comes in handy. This is a particularly nice example. It needs to be heavy enough to rest comfortably without “flipping” around, but light enough not to weigh against your neck. I’ve actually used another version of this item from a different manufacturer and it was a LOT heavier. This one is nearly perfect. The unit is not huge, but big enough to provide a nice range of vision as I’m working. After about 5-10 minutes, I forgot I was wearing it at all. The magnification is 2X, and the only distortion I noticed was just at the very edges of the lens, maybe 1/8″-1/4″ or so, and even then it was very little probably not noticeable unless you’re actively looking for it.The LED light is a nice addition, too. It comes preloaded with the batteries; you just pull a tab to remove the clear plastic spacer to create the contact and you’re set to go. The light is a clear bright “white” light — no yellow — which helps with color differentiation. You can turn the light on or off, depending on your needs (i.e., it’s not on all the time unless you want it on).I’ve been using this regularly for about a week — 2-3 hrs almost every evening — both with and without the light, and have had no issues at all with it. Based on my experience using this, I would have no reservation recommending it to friends.

  4. I love this beautiful instrument. I always keep a magnifier right near my computer, because there’s always a phone number on the back of a debit/credit card, a serial number on a device, black raised plastic lettering on black plastic, and a host of little “user manuals” written in 6pt type to conserve paper, which are impossible to read by the unaided human eye. For years now, I’ve had a high-quality magnifier as part of my daily go-to tools. But not a lighted one. I had those little credit-card lighted magnifiers (the kind of magnifier you keep in your wallet), but though convenient, the optics stink and the light is too dim for any benefit. This magnifier is nothing like that, It’s brilliant. It has three LED lights that light your target brilliantly, two for the large magnifier lens, one for the extreme close-up loupe lens below it. The lenses are distortion-free and crystal clear. This magnifier works a charm. Took me a few minutes to get the batteries right, but once I did, I was overjoyed with my dramatically improved vision for the small, closeup things I seem to always run across. The light is extremely even, casts few shadows, and lasts a long, long, time, since the LEDs demand so little power from the batteries. This is one of those products that, once you try it, you can’t imagine how you live without it. I was given one in return for an honest review, and loved it so much, I’m about to place an order for a second one as a Christmas stocking-stuffer. You can’t go wrong with this wonderful magnifier, I recommend it without reservation!

  5. I am using this product daily. In particular, I am able to see the very fine print on supplement bottles, which previously was extremely difficult. I run a non-profit Healing and Educational Ministry. It is imperative to be fully aware of the contents of supplements I am referring to Members. This Hands Free Magnifier is making my job a lot easier.

I gotta admit, The price being so cheap and seeing the “generic” looking box made me a little scared. But I am pleasantly surprised, This magnifying glass is durable It has that expensive “heavy” feel to it. It works extremely well, You can use it for slivers in your skin, Drawing, Jewelry, Card collecting, and any other hobby. It has an extra place to look through on the bottom that has a higher powered magnifier! So awesome! it even has a LIGHT! Which takes 3 AAA batteries. Its a powerful and small light that is just the right amount of brightness!

  7. Bought this for my 78 yr old mom, she was having trouble holding a magnifying glass in one hand & trying to use her tablet at the same time. She is so happy now, walks all around the house with this hanging around her neck. This is made of good quality material , I highly recommend dealing with this vendor.

  8. Nice looking. Magnifies well. Like the LED with nice on and off control button. My eyes get older. Type get smaller. Perfect
